SUNY Fredonia Master Plan

SUNY Fredonia Master Plan
Fredonia, New York
Facilities master plan that updates the IM Pei-designed campus for the 21st century needs.
The Fredonia Campus features a distinct combination of sculptural modernist buildings and an attractive landscape, punctuated with contemporary sculptures.  To the left is the Honey Locust Grove, an iconic campus landscape.
Model and drawing of the IM Pei and Partners original master plan; and the campus today.
The campus landscape features several iconic landscapes and important corridors that are given a fresh look in the new master plan.
The site analysis helped define some of the issues that need to be addressed; for example the existing circulation conflict at the campus center.
The proposed circulation diagram resolves the pedestrian / vehicular conflict and provides an alternative vehicular circulation pattern, to create a true pedestrian core.
The college's growth needs and plans are reflected on this master plan for the campus core; proposed buildings are shown in red, and landscape intervention are highlighted in yellow and green.  There are four major proposed landscape interventions: rethinking the quad, transforming Varsity Drive into a pedestrian corridor, strengthening an existing longitudinal corridor, and redesigning the Symphony Circle plaza.
